New Year – New habits
The first Monday of 2026. I am surrounded by my new planners and sitting in my workout clothes. I am asking myself, what task do I tackle first?
Everyone goes into a new year with high aspirations for what they want to accomplish. Let’s be honest, though, by the time February rolls around, many of us have forgotten those New Year’s Resolutions we made at the end of 2025. We have fallen back into old habits.
And that is the thing. We have habits that we want to break and new habits we want to form. It is said it takes 30 days to create a new habit. That brings us well into February. Especially if you are like me and actually starting on January 5th.
I gave up on resolutions years ago. They just caused me to feel bad about myself. I decided to set up year-long goals. As long as I don’t procrastinate into November and December, I do have a fighting chance to accomplish my goals.
This year? I am focusing on new habits. And just by making minor changes at a time.
I want to be healthier. Breaking that down means eating better, working out more consistently, paying attention to personal care, and actually going out and doing things. This is not going to occur overnight, probably not even by the end of January. I will be taking small steps to reach my goals. I need to form new habits.
So here we are on the first Monday of 2026. I am ready to work out. A grocery list for this week is underway. Cleaning out the fridge is a chore for another day, but I know it has to get done if I’m going to form these new habits successfully!
So, what habits do you want to put in place for 2026? More importantly, what steps are you taking to form those habits to reach your goals?
