Working from home and planning

You cannot imagine the amount of looks I get when I tell people that I work from home. It’s like one of those pictures. You know the one, the one that shows what everyone expects? What my kids think I do, what my parents think etc, and then the last is what I really do.

Let me tell you working from home is not all rainbows and sunshine. It isn’t all about watching TV and eating bonbons all day either.

I do work for myself, but I also work for larger businesses as well, providing customer service.

It really doesn’t make a difference if you work for yourself or for someone else. Your success is dependent on your ability to plan.

What is the quote? “Failing to plan, is planning to fail”.  No truer words were ever uttered in the work at home environment.

You can’t just wake up and just “wing it”. You have to have a plan.

Even if it is only planning for the next day, you have a plan of action.

Many people that work for themselves plan out a whole year in advance. I envy them greatly! I plan out for a month in advance in lose details and more planned on a weekly basis. That includes day list of what exactly I need to accomplish to meet those goals.

That’s right, I said GOALS.

The easiest way I have found to plan is to set my goals and work backwards.

For example you may have the goal of launching a new product line. You want to launch it by a certain date. Work out what steps you need to take to make that goal an accomplishment. Sit down with your planner, it can be paper or digital and work back from the date you want to launch and work in the steps. You may have to adjust along the way, but you know what you need to get done to make that dream a reality.

Working from home you are only accountable to yourself. Even if you do work for someone else from home, you are still ultimately the one accountable to make sure everything gets done.

So what are you doing right now?

What are you doing to make your work at home adventures successful?

Are you Planning?

Plan for Success!
