Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival

Epcot is known for its wonderful festivals. During the year there are several. The Food and Wine Festival in the fall, Festival of the Arts in January and February and in the spring you can find Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival. All three are wonderful events! But Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival is fast becoming one of our favorite events to visit!

We enjoy visiting Epcot and here are 5 reasons to visit Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival.

#1 – The Time of Year

Let’s face it some times it is nice to visit springtime weather. The Flower and Garden Festival starts in early March. You know that many times it is still snowing in much of the country. Getting south to Florida is just a nice break. Flowers and greenery are the theme of the festival and it is nice just to enjoy the beautiful flowers and the warm weather!

#2 – The Atmosphere

Epcot is probably my personal favorite park when it comes to Walt Disney World. There is just something so amazing about that park. Put that with a festival, where there is food, music and did I mention food? There may be loads of people, but they are all there celebrating the beauty of nature! There are flowers and topiaries every where. There is always something going on. It’s a great place to be!

#3 – The Disney Character Topiaries

There is nothing as magical as meeting a Disney Character, but almost as magical is seeing that character portrayed in flowers and greenery! So many Disney Characters grace Epcot during this time. In every country and around every corner are amazing topiaries! Each year there are different characters, but there are always old favorites as well!

#4 – The Speciality Drinks

Now I am a Dole Whip fan! I love that during the festivals you can get the Dole Whip at Epcot. They have an a few versions every year as well, one even has coconut rum! There are many other speciality drinks and they vary from year to year. The violet lemonade, at the Pineapple Promenade is a favorite as well as La Vie en Rose Frozen Slushy in France. But this year I also really enjoyed the Fior d’Arancio Montegrande Moscato from booth in Italy.

There are so many great beers to try. I do not drink beer, but there were some that even made me rethink that! They had a wonderful Jasmine Draft Beer from China. That was really good, but I have to tell you that it was a kind of small sample. There are also beer flights. These are a combo of 3 different beers to try. The one in Germany is very good. It included the grapefruit beer which I really enjoyed.

#5 – The Food at Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival

To be honest I don’t even know where to start here! There is so much wonderful food at Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival. I enjoyed almost everything that I tried this year, and last year and the year before!

Every year there are so many new things to try! There are always old favorites, but so many new things it is hard to choice. My best advice would be to make a priority list. On the other hand you may want to throw that list out the window when you actually see the choices!

Some of the highlights from our last trip was the Pomodori Verdi e Mozzarella: Fried Green Tomatoes, Mozzarella Cheese, Balsamic Reduction from booth in the Italy Pavilion. This brought back memories of my Grandmother’s fried green tomatoes. It was wonderful. Oh and it went great with the Muscato!

At the Refreshment Port you can try the Coffee-rubbed Pork Poutine with Barbecue Demi-Glace, Fire-roasted Corn Relish and Cheese Curds. Oh my! This is a meal in self! And in Germany you can find the Potato Pancake with Caramelized Ham, Onions and Herb Sour Cream from their booth.

I just realized this year we never even made it to the deserts! There are so many great choices we were always a bit to full! So save room for some of the wonderful sweets to enjoy!

So where to go after mentioning the 5 wonderful, great, and awesome reasons to visit Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival?

I am just not sure, I guess a bit of advice maybe?

There are a couple of things going on during that time of year that may make planning your trip kind of tricky.

It is the time of year for spring break. Nothing like visiting Walt Disney World while everyone else is. It can be crowded. And just because your local school has spring break at one time of the year, other schools have different dates, and colleges even different dates. So just be aware of this as you are planning your trip.

There is usually a marathon weekend during Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival. This year it was the Star Wars Marathon Weekend. This does not effect what is going on in the parks at all, but it may make for a more crowded weekend. People that come in for the Marathon may also be planning on visiting Epcot that weekend or the week before or after.

You also have Easter! I have found that spending Easter in WDW, or Florida in general is pretty busy. The beaches are really crowded.
