Can We Say “No”?

You’ve heard of them, you may even be one. One of those mom’s who have a hard time saying no. So many of us are so over committed with things. Is your business?

Your WAHM business is the same. You have to learn when you just have to much on your plate. Over committing yourself and your resources can leave you just as stressed out as anywhere else.

Many WAHMs are super over committed moms. Now I am not saying that is a bad thing. I think it is wonderful. They have kids, a house, volunteer activities, many may even homeschool. In between all that they juggle their time with online business ventures.

This is indeed a juggling act. Very similar to our counterparts that work outside the home. Except we don’t have the commute.

Learning to schedule and commit to that schedule may be key. Though here is where we hit a snag. Many say I work from home so I won’t have to live by a schedule.

Well that is ok. Schedules can be built to be flexible. You can schedule in all the time you need for those activities that you stay home for, such as kids activities and volunteering.

You schedule can be a simple one of task that get done on certain days or even weeks. Sitting down and writing exactly what task you need to get accomplished for your business is a great place to start. List next to the task when it needs to get done. Write down your times you have slotted for your business and start putting in your task. You may find that when you do this and are more organized that you will actually have more time that you thought.

Once you get organized and know when what needs to get done, then is the time to realize when you have to much in your schedule. Filling that schedule as full as you can won’t help you get more accomplished. Know what you are capable of doing in a set amount of time and stick to it. Turning down task may be hard. But it is better to turn them down than taking them and being unable to do them, or not do them up to the standard you want to do them.

You may want to approach the task that you really want to do but don’t have the time to do in several ways. You can say I do not have the time to get it done right now, but in two weeks time I do have an opening in my schedule. If you really can’t see your way clear, consider outsources some of the task that you have. This will clear your schedule and enable you to have time to take on the new task.

Knowing when to say “whoa!” is important to WAHMs. Learn how to handle turning things down.
